Pulmonology – modern equipment

MediPark is the only commercial facility in Warsaw equipped with a complete lung function testing laboratory. This allows for the identification of disorders in the lungs and bronchi, as well as the diagnosis of emphysema or asthma.

Pulmonologist – what do they do?

A pulmonologist deals with the respiratory system. Their responsibilities include not only treatment but also the diagnosis and prevention of diseases affecting the organs that make up the respiratory system.

Pulmonologist – which diseases do they treat?

A pulmonologist treats conditions such as:

• Bronchial asthma
• COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
• Interstitial pneumonia
• Bronchitis
• Pneumonia
• Lung cancer
• Sarcoidosis
• Pneumothorax
• Cystic fibrosis
• Sleep apnea

Pulmonologist – when should you see one?

You should consider visiting a pulmonologist if you experience: • Wheezing
• Shallow or labored breathing
• Difficulty catching your breath
• A feeling of tightness in the chest
• Coughing up blood
• Fatigue with minimal exertion
• Frequent shortness of breath, even with small amounts of activity
• Recurrent pneumonia

Smokers who develop a cough should also see a pulmonologist. Nighttime snoring should be discussed with a pulmonologist to rule out sleep apnea—an unsafe condition that can lead to hypertension, stroke, episodes of uncontrollable sleep, or depression.

Pulmonologist – what does the visit look like?

The doctor will take a medical history and examine the patient. Often, diagnostic tests are ordered during the visit. Based on the results, the pulmonologist will make a diagnosis and initiate treatment. If necessary, the doctor may refer the patient for hospital treatment or recommend a stay in a health resort or sanatorium.

Pulmonologist – which tests might they order?

• Blood tests
• Spirometry
• Oscillometry
• Imaging studies: chest X-ray, CT scan, MRI of the respiratory system
• Lung ultrasound
• Skin and inhalation allergy tests
• Measurement of nitric oxide in exhaled air (FeNO)

Pulmonology at Medipark offers diagnostics using modern, unique equipment on the commercial market and the care of highly experienced pulmonologists.
